Our Small-Town Feel

Let's be honest, you moved to Strathmore because it was not Calgary. There's noting wrong with big city life, if that's what you signed up for; but you deliberately moved here for it's small-town charm. Right? We're small enough for the small-town feel yet close enough to the city to enjoy its amenities.

If we're not careful, we could lose this!

Strathmore needs bold leadership on council to manage our growth to keep our streets safe and to preserve our quality of life. Unfortunately, growth is coming whether we like it or not - Calgary’s expansion proves it!  Rapid growth has the potential to offer plenty of opportunities, but without prudent planning, it can ruin our beloved community.

When I moved to Strathmore twenty years ago, Calgary celebrated their 1 millionth baby.  Since then, that population has ballooned by 50% and another 100,000 new residents moved there just last year.  Massive population growth can destroy a community.  It can overwhelm existing infrastructure, including roads, water and sewer; create a demand for housing that our supply cannot fulfill, thus raising housing costs; and, of course, invites big-city crime, drugs issues and extreme poverty to town.

It doesn’t have to be this way!  We can manage our future!

Once re-elected, I will ensure that our council undertakes a comprehensive Municipal Development Plan (MDP), which keeps our small-town charm and protects our green spaces.  Moreover, I will champion smart, forward-thinking financial plans that prepare us for critical infrastructure needs — including our water systems, roadways, and emergency services. I will also work closely with the RCMP through the Municipal Policing Committee to ensure that Strathmore remains a safe place to raise our children.

I love this town.  With decisive leadership on council, thoughtful municipal planning, and deliberate cooperation with our police, we can remain the best place to live in Alberta.
